BFA Progress: Week 10

I stuck with the same small shapes this week, but towards the end modified them a bit. I feel more comfortable working with these shapes, even though they aren't on the canvas. They allow me to connect with my work by holding it in the center of my palm. I would say that I definitely always feel the need to forge a relationship between my small scale-sculptures and myself.

BFA Progress: Week 9

For this week, I focused only on sculpture! That meant absolutely no painting -- aside from painting the edges of some of the sculptures. I started with mimicking the work I've been making for independent study. I felt I needed to start in a place where I was already feeling most creative to get me into the groove. It worked! I mixed air dry porcelain with leftover shredded yarn and kneaded them together to create these tiny animorphic sculptures. I dipped the first few in watered down ink before they dried completely and it created a really nice reddish-brown hue. It was really important to me to make things that still resonated with my paintings and I feel as though the colors in these do that.

Inspiration for BFA   Karine Leger https://www.karineleger.ca/ Tammy Kanat https://www.tammykanat.com/ Penny Evans https://pennyevansart.com/biography-penny-evans/ Reflection           These three artists have heavily inspired me over the past few years within my artistic practice. Karine Leger is known for her many layered paintings, typically requiring a few months to complete. I've been following her on her journey for a while and her process is so beautiful, albeit time consuming. I'm inspired by her mark-making and use of colors becaus they're similar to mine. Tammy Kanat has also been one of my longtime inspirations. Her use of textiles and fiber has always been something I've looked up to, since I've been nervous to make the leap into fiber art. It's beautiful and I feel that I've been able to come out of my comfort zone more, especially with this weeks work (week 9). Last but not least, the woman
